Ressie Lee
was born in Crump, Tennessee on June 8, 1917 the daughter of the late Joe Cephus and Mamie Elizabeth Brown Phillips.
Ms. Lee had worked for Brown Shoe Company for over 20 years, before retiring. She demonstrated an unbreakable spirit and passion for life, strength, cheerfulness, wisdom, courage, and determination. She was an ever helpful assistant, helping her family with any project they had going on. Ms. Lee loved sports, especially basketball and baseball, Tennessee women and Memphis State men. She always kept up with the Olympics as well.
Ms. Lee died peacefully, surrounded by her children, family and friends on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the age of 92 years, 3 months, 18 days.
Ms. Lee is survived by 3 daughters, Martha Lambert of Southside, Tennessee, Barbara Shelley of Counce, Tennessee, and Carol Sharp of Olive Branch, Mississippi; a brother, Brown Phillips of Shiloh, Tennessee; a sister, Annie Bradford of Hollister, California; 6 grandchildren, Cathy Wood, Debbie Childres, Ricky Shelley, Vicki Thayer, Stacy Sharp, and Suzanne Stricklin; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrew Sharp, Cailin Stricklin, Sarah Stricklin, Riley Stricklin, Jessica Shelley, Jamie Shelley, Jake Childres, Shelley Robbins, Manning Thayer, and Garrett Thayer; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Hayden Robbins, Hank Robbins, and Gracie Shelley.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Lee was preceded in death by a brother, J.C. Phillips, Jr.; 3 sisters, Mary Faye Martin, Johnnie Phillips, and Mildred Phillips.
