Richard Elden Smeltser

Mr. Smeltser passed away Friday, December 18, 2009.
He was born in Alexandria, MO on February 17, 1923. He was a wonderful husband of 67 years and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He has been a resident at Ave Maria Assisted Living for the past year, and for a short time at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar. Prior to that he and his wife enjoyed their home and life in Bolivar for 15 years and were parishioners at St. Mary Catholic Church. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1959 after 20 years of service. Upon retirement from the Navy he was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency, as a computer systems analyst from which he retired in 1974.
His survivors include his wife Arlene (Craig); 3 sons and daughters-in-law, 1 daughter and son-in-law Sam and Sigga Smeltser (Memphis), David and Jennifer Smeltser (Bolivar), Tim and Cindy Smeltser (Memphis), MaryKay and Michael Greiner (Knoxville); 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and daughters Jo Ann (Smeltser) Ervin of Memphis and Kathy Smeltser (Portland, ME).
