Mrs. Wiggins, a 25 year survivor of breast cancer, died Saturday evening at her home.
A native of Hardeman County, she was born September 26, 1955, the daughter of the late Marlin and Eulelia Moore Tackett. She was a 1973 graduate of Middleton High School and attended one year at Jackson State Community College. She then went to work at Dover Elevator in Middleton until she married George Wayne Wiggins on May 2, 1975.
Rita and George moved to Memphis in 1977, where she worked in the Shelby County Schools for 13 years. During her time in Memphis, she was President and Secretary of the Ross Road Elementary School PTA and also was President of the Shelby County PTA. Mrs. Wiggins had served as Secretary of the Tennessee PTA and received the Tennessee and National Life Membership Award in PTA. She was a faithful member of the Bolivar Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Anna Phillips and her husband, Jay, of Memphis; two sons, Adrian Wiggins and his companion, Julie Koehler, of Hornsby and Austin Wiggins and his wife, Andrea, of Memphis; her brother, Glenn Tackett and his wife, Ruth, of Franklin; five grandchildren, Andrew, Allison and Thomas Aaron Wiggins of Hornsby, Anthony Wiggins of Memphis and Julie Kimbrough of Byhalia, Mississippi; a niece, Amy Tackett of Murfreesboro and nephew, Doug Tackett and his wife, Jennifer.
