Odell Campbell, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Bells, Tennessee on October 4, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on May 30, 1928, in Decatur County, Tennessee, he lived a life rich with love, dedication, and service.
Odell’s career spanned several decades, embodying a spirit of hard work and commitment. He was a devoted bus driver for Fayette County Schools, where he ensured the safety and happiness of countless children. His dedication extended to his work with the Fayette County Highway Department and at Ted's Gulf Station in Somerville. Through each role, Odell demonstrated a sense of responsibility and community that left a lasting impact on those he served.
After 75 beautiful years of marriage, Odell lost his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann Campbell, in 2024. Their bond was a testament to enduring love, and Odell often spoke fondly of their shared memories, from lovingly tending to their garden to cheering on their favorite St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He took great joy in mowing the grass, finding solace and satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life.
A veteran of the US Army Air Corps, Odell exemplified sacrifice and dedication throughout his service. He maintained a strong faith as a Southern Baptist, embodying the values he held dear and imparting them to his family.
Odell is survived by his loving daughter, Ginger Young (Jeff) of Bells; his son, Roger Dell Campbell (Linda) of Buena Vista, Colorado; and his treasured grandchildren: Matthew Campbell, Mary Beth Sebel, Katherine Elizabeth Young, and Kelly Marie Young. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Tripp Fitzpatrick, Draco Edwards, Davis Fitzpatrick, Lillian Young, and Olivia Lankhorst.
Odell was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry Campbell and Clay Eulah White Campbell, along with seven brothers and three sisters, who welcomed him with open arms.
As we remember Odell Campbell, let us celebrate a man whose heart was as expansive as the gardens he tended. His kindness and strength will forever resonate within all who were fortunate enough to know him. Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate).
