Robert Lewis Duncan was born on May 26th 1939 in a place called "Jot Em Down", a small farming community in Hardin County about 3 and half miles from Adamsville. The highlight of the week was going to town on Saturday for supplies. It was until 1949 when his family moved here that he realized Adamsville was open other days of the week than just Saturdays.
After graduating high school, he married and had two daughters. He was very much involved in the girls day to day care which wasn't as common in the 1960's as it is today. Their firstborn child, Robbie was born with Cerebral Palsy which led them to move to Jackson, TN for additional resources for handicapped children. Robert worked as a butcher for a while until he got a job at Consolidated Aluminum for many years. Later he worked 18 years as maintenance man at Maplewood Healthcare where he retired in 2004. Those years were spent not only fixing things but entertaining the elderly residents. He shared his love of Country and Gospel music by putting on shows for them singing and playing the guitar. It was during this time that he began to write amusing short stories of how things used to be. Robert's short stories were published in the Adamsville newspaper under column called Duncan's Landin'.
He was preceded in death by his father Otis Duncan; mother Ornie Duncan;
two sisters, Elsie Whitten and Theta Patterson; his beloved daughter Robbie Jane Duncan. Mr. Duncan is survived by his brother, Hurley Philip Duncan; daughter, Carol Plumlee and husband Scott; two granddaughters, Jenna Sellars and Savannah Rushing and husband Randy; two great grandsons Harper and Paxton Rushing along with many extended family members.
Mr. Duncan suffered with medical issues for the last few years and became a resident at Cades Assisted Living and attended church services with them. Mr. Duncan was a Christian man in good standing with the Lord Jesus Christ. Although his time of earth is through, his heavenly journey has just begun.
