On June 25, 2013, Robert Roy Haggard, III-“Bobâ€- valiantly departed this life after a brief battle with a brain tumor. He was 52 years old. Knowing only a life filled with love, laughter, giving, and friendships, Bob passed away knowing and even telling his family, “…if it’s not all right, it will be all right.â€
Bob was born on October 15, 1960, in Savannah, Tennessee, to Betty Jean and Robert Roy Haggard, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Haggard and Ralph M. and Betty Jean Hughes. A resident of Waynesboro his entire life, Bob attended Columbia State Community College, the University of Tennessee at Martin, and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1983. Upon graduating with a business/political science major, Bob joined the Disney Corporation where he was known as “Greeter Bob†due to his infectious smile. For approximately one year, Bob enjoyed the excitement of all that the Disney properties had to offer before finally joining the staff of Hassell and Hughes Lumber Company in Collinwood, Tennessee, where he remained loyal to high ideals and business principles until his death.
Bob met and married the love of his life, Kim Appleton Haggard, on June 29, 1991. They were to celebrate 22 wonderful years of marriage on this day.
Bob was a devoted member and Elder at the Waynesboro Church of Christ. He was a member of the Waynesboro Rotary Club, serving as president for more than two terms. Bob was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award within the Rotary organization, receiving this award for outstanding service through contributions. Bob was a member of several organizations through Hassell and Hughes Lumber Company, but he was specifically instrumental in managing flooring companies all over the world through NOFMA, National Oak Flooring Manufacturing Association. Bob took pride in his community and participated in any and all activities to better Wayne County.
However, most importantly, Bob was an adored husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed tremendously but remembered in the spirit of which he demanded: the spirit of laughter! Bob loved life.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kim Appleton Haggard, who bravely faced his diagnosis and cared for him lovingly until his death. He leaves behind two precious daughters and one much-admired son-in-law: Tara Dugger Hollis and husband Jerry, and Anna Beth Haggard, all of Waynesboro. He was affectionately called “Bob†by two beautiful granddaughters: Alexandrea and Elly Rose Hollis. Bob was blessed to have one special sibling who loved him so, Ann Haggard Bevis (husband Rex). He was “Uncle Bob†to nieces Amanda Bevis of Murfreesboro, Wendy Bevis Daniel (husband Ben) and Kaylee and Presley Daniel, all of Waynesboro, and very special niece, Suzanne Bevis of Nashville. Cousins he held so dear include Roy Hughes (wife Jennifer), Ralph Hughes, Gavin Hughes, Martha Skelton Kelly and sons, all of Waynesboro, and Sarah Skelton Warren and Abby and Catie Cameron of Nashville. Bob leaves behind a host of co-workers and friends for which he had so much respect.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the Church of Christ in Waynesboro. Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Friday, June 28, at the Church of Christ.
