Robert Eugene Nutt of Waynesboro, TN, was born February 13, 1933 in Waynesboro, TN, the son of the late Herman Wilson Nutt and Goldie Mary Brewer Nutt. He married Emma Kathryn (Kathy) Gobbell and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2012, he then married Erma Lee Vickery Merriman. Mr. Nutt attended Freed Hardeman College, now University and Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, now Tennessee Tech University and received a B. S. in Industrial Management. He worked for DuPont as an Engineer Analyst, managed several Kroger and Piggly Wiggly stores, was a cost analyst at Avco/Textron in Nashville, TN and later worked as a truck driver before retiring. Mr. Nutt joined the US Air Force in 1952 and served in Casablanca, North Africa, London, England and San Antonio, TX during the Korean War and was discharged at Camp Kilmer, NJ as Staff Sergeant. He was a faithful member of Madison Church of Christ where he and his first wife, Kathy served as house parents for Madison Children's Home but he attended Waynesboro Church of Christ after moving to Waynesboro. Survivors include, wife, Erma Lee Merriman Nutt, Waynesboro, TN; son, Robert E. Knott, wife, Maria Craig Knott, Wichita, KS; daughters, Debra (Nutt) Forsyth, Donelson, TN, Sandra (Nutt) Cleghorn, husband, Eddie Cleghorn, Lawrenceburg, TN; 4 grandchildren; stepson, James Harris Merriman, wife, Myra Nell Merriman, Linden, TN; 2 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; a brother, Donald Gene Nutt,Waynesboro, TN and a sister, Linda Faye (Nutt) White, Pulaski, TN. Besides his parents, Mr. Nutt was preceded in death by one granddaughter and brothers, Harold Wilson Nutt and Billy Dan Nutt.
Services will be Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Rodney Livingston officiating. Graveside services with military rites and burial will be Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, Old Hickory, Tennessee, Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2018 from 2 pm til service time at the funeral home in Waynesboro.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Gene Nutt, Derrick White, Billy White, Mike Burns family, John Lacy family and other close family members and friends.
