Robert "Chief" Wilcox, 66, of Cordova, TN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his dogs, on Saturday, June 17th, at his home. A native of Waukegan, IL, he was the son of the late David and Frances Martha Wake Wilcox.
Mr. Wilcox was a lineman for over 40 years, first in Chicago, and then the last 20 years with Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW). Through his work, he was a devoted servant to his community. Prior to moving to Memphis in 1998, he lived in Round Lake, IL where he graduated high school.
"Chief", as he was known to many in reference to his Indian heritage, served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan and a devotee of Bob Seger's music. Most of all he loved his family - especially his wife, his children and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Robin Nixon Wilcox, whom he married on April 26, 1975; his daughter, Witney Marie Wilcox of Lakeland; his son, Jason Daniel Wilcox of Cordova; his grandchildren, Ashton Ray Wilcox and Addison Grayce Wilcox; his brother, Frank Robert Wilcox and his wife, Mollie of Grand Rapids, MI and their children, David Wilcox, Brandon Wilcox and his wife, Paige, and Leslie Bos and her husband, Ben; his mother-in-law, Helen Nixon of Grand Valley Lakes, Saulsbury, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Donna Ankebrant of Memphis and their children, Brandon Ankebrant and his wife, Whitney, Ashley Ankebrant and Cortney Terhune and her husband, Payson; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Elmer "Nick" Nixon, Jr.
