Mr. Vandiver passed away Wednesday night at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. A native of Tipton County, he was the son of the late Windle Hershel and Pattie Jean Lowrance Vandiver and lived most of his life in the Hornsby area.
He was a minister for many years having pastored the Bolivar Church of God, Center Ridge Pentecostal Church of God and was minister for the Abundant Faith Fellowship Full Gospel Church since 2001. In his earlier years, Bro. Vandiver was a traveling minister and he enjoyed playing bass guitar and singing at services. He was former Tennessee State Superintendent for the Full Gospel Interdenominational Church (FGIC).
In his leisure time, he enjoyed his family, horses, trips to the beach and woodworking. He was also a gun and knife enthusiast and arrowhead collector. Roger was a compassionate man, alway willing and ready to "turn the other cheek".
He leaves his wife, Sharon D. Vandiver of Hornsby, whom he married November 8, 2002; sons, Jeffrey Dale Vandiver (Mindy) of Selmer and Brian Nathaniel Vandiver (Sonya) of Clarksville; daughter, Nalani Vandiver of Hornsby; five sisters, Velma Beatrice Floyd of Bethel Springs, Beverly Ann Mackey of Peoria, IL, Rachel Sparks (Keith) of Selmer, Charlotte Gibson of Brownsville and Debra Monroe (Willie) of Meadville, MS; two brothers, Kirby Vandiver (Carol) of Savannah and Joseph Vandiver (Ashley) of Selmer; 12 grandchildren, Alex, Matthew and Joshua McQueen, Kaitlynn, Brooklynn, Nate, Shea, Kendall and Gabe Vandiver, Makynlee Campbell, Carter Vandiver and Gunner Gilbert; and three great-grandchildren, Katherine, Bristol and Paisley McQueen; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Vandiver was preceded in death by his daughter, Dwanna Renee' McQueen; two sisters, Patsy Lucille Vandiver and Sandra K. Ortiz; and two brothers, Elton and Harvey Vandiver.
