Ronnie Mathis

Ronnie Eugene Mathis passed away peacefully at his home on July 20,2026 surrounded by the love of his family. A celebration of life will be on Wednesday, July 22 at 1:00 at Shackleford Funeral Home in Middleton, Tennessee with burial to follow at the Mathis Cemetery in Pocohontas, TN. Visitation for family will be from 11-11:30, regular visitation 11:30-1:00 on Wednesday. Born on December 24, 1952, in Dyess, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy (Mary) Mathis and Willie Casey and his brother Ellis Mathis.

Ronnie was the beloved and devoted husband to Karen for 53 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and unwavering commitment to one another. He was a loving and cherished father to his three daughters: Angie Clarke and her husband, Andy, of Eads Tennessee; Tracy Tichenor and her husband, Brian, of Conway, Arkansas; and Rae McDonald and her husband, Jeff, of Atoka, Tennessee. He was a great big brother to Eugene Mathis of Pocohontas, Tennessee.

He was an incredibly proud grandfather to Kaley Robertson and Loren Robertson of Gallatin, Tennessee; Jeremy McDonald of Atoka, Tennessee; Tyler Tichenor and his wife, Emily, of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and Maddie Wyatt and her husband, Peyton, of Alexander, Arkansas. He was also blessed with three precious great-grandchildren: Lucas McDonald, Layla Tichenor, and Sabrina Wyatt.

Ronnie graduated from Memphis Tech High School and went on to build a successful career as the owner of Mills and Sons, Incorporated, where he dedicated more than 40 years as a respected general contractor. His strong work ethic, integrity, and craftsmanship earned him the admiration of those who knew and worked alongside him.

Ronnie’s greatest joy was his family. His lighter side was often on full display when he was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved spoiling them, making them laugh, playing board games and card games, sharing stories, and pulling the occasional harmless prank. Those moments created treasured memories that will be carried with them forever.

A gifted craftsman, Ronnie enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, and fishing on his family land. He found fulfillment in working with his hands, but his greatest accomplishments were the relationships he built and the love he gave to those around him.

Ronnie was passionate about his faith, his family, and his friends. He cared deeply about his country, stayed well informed on current events and politics, and enjoyed thoughtful conversations with those around him. His faith in Jesus Christ was a quiet but steady foundation throughout his life. He found strength in the Gospel and maintained a personal devotion that was humble, sincere, and unwavering. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or be of service to others without ever seeking recognition or praise.

To everyone who knew him, Ronnie was a man of wisdom, strength, humility, and kindness. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor, unwavering integrity, and a quiet confidence that inspired those around him. He was the patriarch of his family—the steady foundation and the glue that held everyone together. He led by example with dignity, intelligence, compassion, and unconditional love.

Ronnie leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his accomplishments. It lives on in the family he cherished, the values he instilled, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity, wisdom, and steadfast love. Though he will be deeply missed, his example and his love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
