Roxie Carrie Julian Crowell

October 7, 1918 — May 26, 2016

Roxie Carrie Julian Crowell Mrs. Roxie Carrie Julian Crowell crossed the river to her eternal home on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 19 days in Nashville, TN, at the home of her daughter, Joyce; son-in-love, Bill; and granddaughter, Hope.

Mrs. Crowell was born on October 7, 1918, in Hardin County, TN, the daughter of the late John and Dora Keen Julian.

She was united in marriage on November 24, 1934, to the late Perry Leander Crowell. From that relationship, she had four children: the late Talford Crowell; Wanda Howell; Joyce Spencer; and Royce Crowell. She was the mother of all mothers, working hard and sacrificing for her family, whether it was helping her husband on their farm with many tasks especially chopping cotton or in one of her jobs at ITT and Salant and Salant.

She loved “The Price is Right” and “The Wheel of Fortune” and made sure to never miss an episode. Over the last year, she came to be a fan of the Tennessee Titans, Nashville Predators, and professional soccer.

By far, the greatest love of her life and the thing she held most dear to her heart was her strong personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus. Compassionate, merciful, tenderhearted, giving are just a few of the many words to describe this amazing lady whose desire was to be like Jesus and manifest the fruits of the Spirit in everything she did. She was there any time anyone needed her. All you had to do was ask, and she was there ready and willing to help however she could.

She loved her home church, Bethel Springs United Pentecostal Church, and was at every service until her declining health caused her to be homebound. She was most proud of being a member of The Busy Bees quilting club at the church. One year, they completed 90 quilts and sent them worldwide, in their ultimate goal of building a church building.

She is survived by her children: Wanda Howell of Selmer, TN; Joyce Spencer and husband Bill of Nashville, TN; and Royce Crowell and wife Sue of Phil Campbell, AL. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Talford, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren: David, Teressa, and Mike; her six siblings: Earby Julian, Alford Julian, Ottis Julian, Earl Julian, Johnnie Julian, and Exie Ramey; and her beloved nephew, Wilburn Julian.

The family wishes to thank several special people in Mrs. Crowell’s life: her always faithful niece, Glenda Ingle; special friends, Martha Burns and Carol Lococo; First Light Home Care, especially Moniqua (Mo) and Danielle; and the staff of Avalon Hospice in Nashville, TN, especially Catherine, chaplain Mike, and most of all nurse Brooke, whose bright spirit shines inside and out, even during the most difficult of times. We never would have made it through this journey without her love, care, and compassion.

“The old home it’s now empty it’s lonesome since she’s gone
And it’s hard to know she won’t return again
But I’ll meet her in that morning on Heaven’s golden hills
Where Mama’s teaching angels how to sing”
