Ruby Ann
Britt
Nov 29, 1959 — Sep 6, 2026
Selmer, TN
Ruby Britt, 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by love after a life filled with family, friendships, coffee, dogs, bird watching, and more than her fair share of good gossip.
Ruby was born on November 29, 1959, and grew up in Guys, Tennessee. She was a proud mother to her two daughters, Amy Rieger and Leigh Ann Butler, and a grandmother to her three grandchildren, Alessa, August, and Asherah, who were among the greatest joys of her life.
Ruby was a woman who knew what she liked. She loved watching birds, spending time with dogs, watching Big Brother, and, perhaps most importantly, drinking her coffee while keeping up with everybody else's business. She enjoyed a good conversation, and if there was a little gossip involved, well, she certainly wasn't going to turn it down. Some people read the newspaper to keep up with the world. Ruby preferred coffee and conversation.
For many years, Ruby worked as a cashier at Walmart in Selmer, a job she genuinely enjoyed. She loved the people she met and the familiar faces that became part of her everyday life. Ruby had a way of making connections with people, and she will be remembered by many who knew her from behind that checkout counter.
Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Britt; her parents, Vaudie and Virginia Davis; her sisters, Rita Cosby and Helen Kennedy; her brother, Roger Davis; and several dear friends.
She leaves behind her daughters, Amy Rieger and her husband, Tony Rieger, and Leigh Ann Butler and her husband, Cris Butler; and her beloved grandchildren, Alessa, August, and Asherah, along with countless friends and family members who will miss her dearly.
Ruby lived her life in her own way, loved her people fiercely, enjoyed the simple things, and never seemed to run out of something to say.
Ruby's absence will be felt in the quiet moments, in the empty chair, in the absence of her voice, and especially when there is coffee to be poured and nobody there to discuss everybody else's business with.
We know there's a full cup of coffee waiting for her, a dog nearby, a good bird to watch, and somebody willing to sit down and tell her all the latest gossip.
She was loved. She will be missed. And knowing Ruby, she probably already knows all the gossip up there and is on her third cup of coffee.
