Rubye Lindsey Morton
Henderson: Rubye Lindsey Morton was born in Henderson, TN on November 22, 1912 and passed away at her home in Henderson on November 11, 2011.
Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Lindsey and Lela Lucinda Garey Lindsey.
She attended school from first grade through college at Freed-Hardeman University. She also graduated from Union University.
In 1936 she married Walter Carlton Morton. They made their home in Henderson for 72 1/2 years until Mr. Morton’s death in 2008. Mrs. Morton worked at Freed-Hardeman University for over 25 years.
She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ for almost 90 years. She was a member of the Freed-Hardeman Associates and the Bon Tres Club for many years.
Mrs. Morton is survived by her daughters Cindy Harper and husband Larry of Alamo and Martha Naylor and husband Tommy of Henderson. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris Harper and wife Paula, Mica Freeman and husband Jason, Jana Mills and husband Nick, Joel Harper and fiancée Margaret Ellen Fox, and great grandchildren Sara Harper, Lindsey Grace Freeman, Skyler Freeman, and Peyton Mills.
Mrs. Morton loved God, her family, her friends, Freed-Hardeman University and especially her sweetheart Carlton Morton. She and Mr. Morton were a blessing to many, many people.
The family would like to thank her special caregivers Lily Terry, Dorothy Austin, Joyce Bailey and Nancy Workman.
Funeral services for Mrs. Morton will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Henderson Church of Christ with Ben Flatt, Charlie Smith and Roy Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Henderson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the church building.
