Rueben BlackLance, Jr. was born August 3, 1955 on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, the son of the late Rueben, Sr. and Rowena Smith BlackLance.
He was united in marriage to Sandra Roberts on May 26, 1978.
Rueben earned a bachelor's degree from UT Permian Basin in Odessa, TX. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper. Rueben worked in Texas as an oil field maintenance supervisor with Fastline and Dubose Drilling for 30 years. After retiring he began a second career as a truck driver. Making knives, gardening, and being outdoors were some of Rueben's favorite activities. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them the Lakota Sioux language and culture. Rueben was a member of Hope Recovery Church in Medon, TN.
Rueben departed this life on January 11, 2023 in Pocahontas, Tennessee at the age of 67 Years, 5 Months, 8 Days. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra BlackLance of Selmer, TN; two daughters, Misty Cross of Memphis, TN and Megan BlackLance of Nashville, TN; a son, Jake Perry of Odessa, TX; six grandchildren: Veronica Martin and husband Bishop, Jakob Perry, Madison King, Ashelyn Perry, Mycal Perry, and Kayden Cross; three great-grandchildren: Branson O'Kert, Paisley Cross, and Waylon Martin; a sister, Lori Lunderman of Rosebud Reservation, SD; a brother, Karl Kemp of Hagerstown, MD; and many extended family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 15, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Hope Recovery Church in Medon, Tennessee, with Marcie Hodge Hendrick officiating.
