Rufus Akers was born in Maury County, Tennessee on October 12, 1931 the son of the late John Rufus Akers, Sr. and Rosa LaRue Akers.On September 4, 1954 he was united in marriage to Pearl Stutts whom survives.Mr. Akers worked at Ronnie Smith\'s Chevrolet as the parts manager. He retired December 31, 1996. He also worked for Emmett Yeiser, Sr. in 1957. He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church, Aladdin Knights International, and International Willow Society. Mr. Akers enjoyed Workshop, Wood Refinishing, Lamp Shop, and had a special love for Antiques. He servedt time in the Army and Korean War. Mr. Akers was a former resident of Hohenwald, Tennessee until 1957.Mr. Akers departed this life on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the age of 80 years, 6 months, 19 days.He is survived by his wife Pearl Akers of Savannah, Tennessee; one son, Michael Akers of Shreveport, Louisiana; two sisters, Ruby Marlene Hurt of Clarksville, Tennessee; Christine Hall of Columbia, Tennessee; one grandchild, Dustin Akers.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four sisters, Melba Carroll, Elizabeth Young, Bonnie Carroll and Betty Henson.
