October 16, 1925 – January 9, 2017 (San Diego) – Ruth Gerber, aged 91, passed away peacefully on January 9th at Solaris Senior Memory Center in Poway, California.
One of 9 children, Ruth was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on October 16, 1925 to Thomas and Edna Hunt. In 1942, Ruth moved to Louisville where she met the love of her life, Robert Gerber, a U. S. Marine from Wisconsin serving in the Pacific Theater. They married shortly after his discharge in February 1946 and moved to the Madison, Wisconsin area where they were long-time residents until his retirement from the Oscar Mayer Company in 1983.
A Southern girl at heart, Ruth and Bob moved to Waynesboro, Tennessee, where they remained until his death in 2004. Shortly thereafter, Ruth moved to San Diego to be closer to her family. She lived with her daughter, Nancy, and her family until her move to Solaris Senior Memory Center in 2015. She was a faithful member Church of Christ, Madison, WI and later at Beech Creek Church of Christ, Waynesboro, TN. Ruth is survived by her brothers Garry Hunt and his wife, Alice, of San Antonio, Texas; James Hunt of Panama City, Florida; her daughter, Nancy Speth, and her husband James of Murrieta, California; and her son, Curtis Gerber, of Camden, Tennessee. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren (Briony Harmer, Anthony Speth, Brandon Gerber, Ryan Workman, Clint Pevahouse, Austin Gerber, Lindsey Gerber and Dakota Gerber) and 12 great grandchildren (Peter, Jack and Katie Harmer; Brody and Brooklyn Speth; Peyton, Preston, and Isaiah Gerber; Aydan Gerber; Arianna Pevahouse; and Mia and Brycen Gerber) and a large, beloved extended family. She was dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bob; her infant son Gary; two brothers (Tommy and Ermil Hunt), and four sisters (Carmen Hunt, Rheba Henry, Clara Weger, and Naomi Murphy).
Services will be held in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in Waynesoro TN, on Monday, January 16th, at 11am with viewing at 10am.
