Ruth P. Horton was born December 28, 1945 in Salina, KS the daughter of the late Harold Thomas and Sheila Evelyn Rabe Pierce.
Ruth moved to Memphis when she was about two years old. She was the Salutatorian of her graduating class at Germantown High School and attended Harding University. Ruth worked for the University of Tennessee Medical Library in Memphis and attended Coleman Avenue church of Christ, where she met Tommy W. Horton. They married at Coleman Avenue on June 24, 1967 and lived in Memphis for eleven years, where their three daughters were born. The Horton family moved to McNairy County in 1978, where Ruth worked as a bank teller for what was then Selmer Bank & Trust, later Union Planters Bank and Regions Bank. She also worked for CB&S Bank before retiring. Singing, solving word search puzzles, and watching westerns and the quiz show "Jeopardy!" were among her favorite activities (she could answer most all the questions asked by the host) . She was good with numbers and enjoyed doing things that helped keep her mind sharp. Ruth was a faithful member of the Antioch church of Christ in Ramer, where she taught the ladies' Bible class for many years.
Ruth departed this life on November 23, 2023 in Ramer, Tennessee at the age of 77 Years, 10 Months, 26 Days. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Tommy W. Horton of Ramer, TN; three daughters: Paige Berryman and husband Anthony of Decatur, AL, April Suggs and husband Randall of Chewalla, TN, and Cynthia Copeland and husband Jeff of Maumelle, AR; six grandchildren: Lucy Wilson and husband Patrick, Trudy Berryman, Miriam Chasteen and husband Adam, Garrison Jones, Lydia Copeland, and Joanna Copeland; a sister, Peggy Crum and husband David of Michie, TN; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan King and Janet Pierce.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Antioch church of Christ.
