Sammy Scott Henry

November 3, 1947 — June 25, 2024

Bethel Springs, TN

Sammy Scott Henry was born November 3, 1947 in Selmer, TN the son of the late Derucie and Jo Ann Powers Henry.

He was united in marriage to Betty Milford on November 7, 1968. They were married for 55 years.

Over the years Sammy cherished the friendships he made through his time in the work place at Brown Shoe Factory, Grinnell, Kolpak, Henderson Stamping, and United Stainless. Those relationships followed him into his retirement in 2019. Sammy was a member and elder at Bethel Springs Presbyterian Church. Being a part of the church brought him joy and a feeling of connectedness to his family.

A cowboy at heart and a John Wayne fan, he enjoyed all things western. Sammy never met a stranger and he loved to talk. He exercised this love most through his detailed storytelling. He was a lover and collector of guns, a topic on which he became very knowledgeable. After retirement and a knee replacement, his time in the recliner was spent watching Perry Mason, playing Solitaire and reading Gun Magazines. Pawn shop visits, going to flea markets, and riding around sharing stories with his grandkids were always highlights for him. He had a great desire to pass down family history and precious memories to his children and grandchildren.

Sammy departed this life on June 25, 2024 in Bethel Springs, TN. He is survived by his wife, Betty Henry; his children, Jeremy Henry (Amanda) and Jana Bowen (Jeremy); granddaughter, Aubrey Marie Henry along with her mother Danielle and sister, Emery; grandson, Henry Bowen; two brothers, Tim Henry (Janie) and Todd Henry (Christi); beloved uncle, Bobby Gean Harris; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins that he held very dear to his heart.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Henry was preceded in death by a sister, Beth Henry Ray, and a beloved aunt, Betty Carol Harris.
