SAMMY HOWELL
Memphis, TN: Sammy Ray Howell age 70 passed away Monday morning February 27, 2017 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
He was born May 3, 1946 in Chester County, the Hickory Corner Community, the son of Esther Hurst Howell and the late William Henry ‘Jack’ Howell. He graduated from Kingsbury High School in Memphis in 1964. He attended Memphis State College for two years. He entered the U.S. Army in 1968 and served thirteen months in Korea. After the service he returned to Memphis and worked as a chemist for DuPont for thirty-nine years and four months, retiring in 2008.
Mr. Howell was an avid bowler and was a Director and Hall of Fame Member on Memphis Area United States Bowling Congress Board. He was a member of the Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church.
Mr. Howell is survived by his mother, Esther Howell of Memphis; a son, Anthony Howell of Arlington; his life partner, Laura Madsen of Memphis; two step sons, Brent Madsen, Jr of Memphis and Andrew Madsen and wife Dani of Fort Hood, TX and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Steve Leggett and Elder Doyle Hurst officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Little Hatchie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM Friday and beginning at 10:00 AM Saturday at the church.
