Sandra Miller Brown was the devoted mother of Anna Hilting, Barrett (Dayna) Brown, Jason (Beau) Brown and Nancy (Rick) Neiheisel. grandmother of Brandy (Patrick), Bryan, Catelin, Cara (Perry), Aubrey, Luke, Macy, Dennis and Pearl (Alan) great-grandmother of Beckett, sister of Carol Anne (David) Harvey, aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She passed away March 31, 2017 and services will be at Anderson Hills United Methodist Church, 7515 Forest Rd and Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, OH on Thursday April 6 at 3 P.M. Friends may visit at the Church on Thursday 2 P.M to 3 P.M. Interment at Grand Junction Cemetery, Grand Junction, TN on Saturday, April 8.
Sandra grew up in the small town of Grand Junction, Tennessee in a time when it wasn't unusual for children as young as 14 to drive around town alone. Her parents were Arthur Boone Miller and Mary Edith Miller and she had one sister, Carol Anne. During the late depression, the young family lived in the back of the pharmacy until they were able to move into the house that stayed in the family for the next 60 years. Sandra was very smart and got a scholarship to major in History at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where she met Billy Joe Brown, whom she married in 1958. When they had their first child, they were living in the male dorms. She enjoyed her job as a social worker but with the birth of their second child, stayed home to take care of the children.
About this time, Billy got a civil service job and they started their odyssey of suburban life in several cities throughout the Southeast and Midwest, adding two more children along the way. She landed in Cincinnati in 1978, where she developed many close friendships. She went back to work in the 70's, using her considerable people skills in facilitation and counseling to enrich others’ lives. She never ever ever met a stranger and was always eager to learn what made a person tick. Her last job was as the head of the Cincinnati Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
Sandra greatly enjoyed her involvement with Anderson Hills United Methodist Church for many years. She volunteered as a Stephens Minister, led Sunday school classes, served physically challenged members of the congregation, and enjoyed her friendships at church.
Her love of people went well with her love of laughter. When she and Carol Anne got together, the children hung around to enjoy their hilarious humor. She was also an adventurer. She enjoyed Sierra Club outings and joining her children on exciting trips and teaching her grandchildren to camp and canoe. The Johnny Cash song, "I've Been Everywhere", was inspired by Sandra! She sailed the Drake Passage in the Virgin Islands and got lost in Amsterdam. Her dream job was to be an archaeologist and she participated in at least one dig.
Most of all, Sandra loved and supported her children and grandchildren and was always eager to spend time with them. They will all miss her greatly.
