Sara Ann Major was born on February 24, 1926, the daughter of the late Jessie and Tiny Crowe Nicks. On January 8, 1955, she was united in marriage to James M. Major, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2006. Sara departed this life on February 26, 2017, at the age of 91 years and 2 days.
Sara was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ. Due to her husband's employment with the Corps of Engineers, she was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Before living in Ashland, Tennessee, Sara lived in Savannah, Tennessee from 1972 to 2009 and Florence, Alabama. She briefly worked at Savannah Manufacturing. Sara loved to knit, sew, cook, and can. She made kleenex boxes and quilted with the ladies at her church.
Sara is survived by her son, James M. Major, III of Athens, Alabama, several nieces and nephews, and lots of friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
