Sarah Jewell Floyd of Memphis, TN, departed this life on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the age of 101 years, and 24 days. Mrs. Floyd was born on September 19, 1908, the daughter of Robert and Maude Naylor Bailey. She was united in marriage to W. E. (Bill) Floyd on April 13, 1929. Mr. Floyd preceded her in death on April 2, 1982. She had worked in the nursery daycare at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Memphis. Mrs. Floyd was a member of Elliston Baptist Church in Memphis and a former member of Selmer, TN, First Baptist Church and Eudora Baptist Church in Memphis. She loved quilting, crocheting, and flowers, especially African violets. She never learned to drive and had never been in the hospital prior to her 98th birthday.
Survivors are two sons, Leslie Floyd and James Floyd, both of Memphis; four grandchildren, Ervin Floyd and wife Janet of Olive Branch, MS, Sarah Porter and husband Michael of Lobelville, TN, Richard Floyd of Collierville, TN, Ronald Floyd and wife Tanya of Memphis; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Jones of Horn Lake, MS, and Rachel Roberts of Atlanta, GA; as wells as a host of other relatives and friends.
Other than her parents and husband, Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by an infant son, a little sister, four brothers, Harmon, Irel, Eddie, and Jessie Bailey and a great grandchild Trey Pierce.
