SAM SIMER
Jackson, TN: S. D. ‘Sam’ Simer age 88 passed away November 11, 2018 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1930 in Denmark, TN and raised at Toone, TN, the son of the late Willie Hugh and Ethel Mae Lee Harris Simer. He went to school at Toone and entered the U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command, in 1950 and was a Tech Sergeant. He retired in 1971. He owned and operated a printing business in Jackson and married Faye Joyner in 1992. They made their home in Jackson since that time. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Sam has traveled all over the world being in the Air Force in parts and supply for air crafts, Africa, Italy, Germany, England, Guam, Philippines and several states in the U.S.
He loved and played baseball, softball, bowling and fishing. His main love was golf. He has had 3 “hole in ones” and traveled while playing in many golf tournaments. He almost always brought back gifts he had won, placing in different categories.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1971, he and his family settled in Jackson. He worked for ITT-Nesbitt, Central Distributors and TN Department of Revenue. He later bought Bailey’s Printing and Rubber Stamp Company, working in Printing until retiring in 1995.
He was an avid golfer and #1 Saint Louis Cardinal fan.
Mr. Simer is survived by his wife, Faye Lynn Joyner Simer; a daughter, Sherry S. Bivens (Joe) of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Deonna Ford of Pinson and Cammy Connor of Jacks Creek; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren and two sisters, Ethel Mae Doles of Toone and Hazel Sterling of Bolivar.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Hugh, mother, Ethel Mae Lee Harris Simer; a son, Steven D. Simer (May 2009) at age 49; five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors on Crook Avenue, with Bro. Marcus Kelly and Bro. Bobby Bray officiating. Burial will follow in Finger cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 4 PM until 8 PM Wednesday.
