Sharon Jean Johnson Benson

SHARON JEAN JOHNSON BENSON

was born in Savannah, Tennessee on August 23, 1955, the daughter of the late Tommy Lewis and Doris Faye Hindman Johnson. On February 14, 1976, she was united in marriage to Billy Ray Benson, who survives. She chose that date so he'd never be able to say he forgot their anniversary.

Sharon graduated from Hardin County High School in 1973. After graduation, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee for about 6 months, but immediately came home, realizing she was a country girl at heart. For years she worked as a supervisor at various garment factories in the area, moving to Quinco when all of them closed. Her last job, the one from which she retired, was as a receptionist with Prime Care in Adamsville.

Although a member of First United Methodist Church in Savannah, Sharon had been unable to attend for several years due to her responsibilities as her husband's caregiver. Her escapes from reality came through the music she enjoyed, reading epic fantasy novels, and watching sci fi and adventure movies, especially the entire Star Wars and Indiana Jones series. Sharon was also an avid John Wayne fan; she had seen every one of his movies and probably has a copy of each. A simple person, she loved her dogs and puttering around with her small summer garden plots and her flowers, her favorites being her Buttercups. Sharon had more love in her heart than ten people put together and spent her life caring for those around her, especially her husband, to whom she was devoted.

Sharon departed this life on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 28 days.

In addition to her loving husband of 43 years, Billy Ray, she is survived by one sister, Julia Ann Johnson of Savannah, Tennessee; and other extended family members.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Derenda Jo Johnson and Tommie Jaleen Johnson.
