Shelby Jean Glover, age 69, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and light. Born on March 4, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Charles and Betty Glover, Shelby lived a life that defied expectations. Though she was born blind, deaf, and mute, she lived with an intelligence and affection that brought her family closer together. Her family finds great peace in knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord, where she can finally see, hear, and speak.
Shelby was a woman of routine and precision. She was known for her work at Pizza Hut, where she took great pride in folding boxes to perfection. This attention to detail extended to her home life, where she mastered chores such as peeling oranges, making her bed, and washing dishes. A faithful member of the Full Gospel Fellowship, she loved attending services and could feel the joyful vibrations of the music. In her quiet moments, she loved to swing outside and communicate with her family through her own special hand signs, particularly when she wanted her favorite coffee or a Coca-Cola.
A deeply affectionate person, Shelby identified those she loved through warm hugs, often focusing on the feel of their clothing and shoes. She had a great love for food, though she was famous for her keen sense of smell—never letting an onion slip past her.
Shelby is survived by her sisters, Ruth Glover and Seretta Theetge of Selmer, TN; her brother, Ricky Glover, and his girlfriend Rebecca Portilla of Selmer, TN; her niece, Dustie Matlock (and children Hayden, Ella, and Everett); and her nephews, Keith Matlock and Joseph Cooper (and daughter Macy). she is also survived by her close cousins, John Sharp and Teresa Wolfe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Betty Glover. Her spirit of perfection and her gentle, loving nature will be forever cherished by her family.
