Sheri Lynnette Austin, lovingly known to many as “Bit,” was born on February 18, 1965, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the cherished daughter of the late Leonard Hill and Lynne Brooks Hill. Her life was one rooted in love, history, and devotion to family, leaving behind a legacy that will long be remembered by those who knew her best.
Sheri had a deep appreciation for the beauty of the past. She loved antiques and found great joy in quilting, often pouring patience and care into every stitch. Her curiosity for history—especially genealogy—was more than a hobby; it was a passion. She devoted countless hours to learning about her family lineage and the rich history of McNairy County and Purdy, proudly preserving stories that might otherwise have been lost to time. In keeping with that passion, Sheri was a dedicated member of the Purdy Historical Society, where her love for local heritage found a meaningful home.
Those who knew Sheri knew her fondness for yard sales, always on the lookout for hidden treasures and pieces of history. She worked at the Purdy Store, where her warm presence and familiar face were a part of everyday life in the community she loved so dearly.
Above all else, Sheri’s heart belonged to her children and grandchildren. They were her pride, her joy, and her purpose. Every moment spent with them was cherished, and her love for them knew no bounds. They were truly her whole world.
Sheri Austin departed this life on January 14, 2026, in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, at the age of 60 years, 10 months, and 27 days. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Lesley Kirk and husband John of Selmer, Tennessee, and Malerie Austin and partner Jeremiah of Corinth, Mississippi; one son, Lukas Austin of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Amelia Kirk, Heaven Kirk, Hazelynn Kirk, Xavier Crabb, Kaidenn Coy, Noah Coy, Taylor Coy, Oaklyn Coy, and John Parker Austin; two brothers, Ricky Hill and wife Joyce of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, and Doyle Hill and wife Pat of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; and her companion, Roger Capooth of Guys, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, Sheri was preceded in death by a beloved grandchild, Travis Kirk; a sister, Beverly Moore; and a brother, Joey Hill.
Sheri Lynnette Austin lived a life rich in love, history, and family. Her gentle spirit, inquisitive mind, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Her story lives on through the generations she so deeply treasured.
