Sherry Sellers McCaskill Thomas, age 82, passed away Sunday morning October 5,2025 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was born April 17, 1943, in Thomasville, Georgia, the daughter of the late Aundee Odell and Nell Cates Sellers. Her childhood years were spent in Henderson and Madison counties.
She married James Howard McCaskill August 12,1960 and moved to Mishawaka, Indiana while Howard was stationed in the Army in Porter, Indiana. They had four children Richard, Kim, John, and Camille. They returned to reside in Henderson, Tennessee in 1969 and begin their business venture of City Sign Company. Sherry was the graphic and pattern designer for the business. Howard passed away in August 2000.
In December 2002, Sherry married John David Thomas and was married to him until his passing in April 2024.
Sherry was known for being a Bible class teacher for over 45 years. She was a member of the church of Christ attending at both Estes and Henderson congregations. She participated in numerous mission trips to Russia with both of her husbands, Howard and David. Her emphasis on these trips was teaching others how teach the Bible.
She later went back and pursued her Bachelor of Arts at Freed Hardeman University graduating in 2007. She developed her love for oil painting and had created numerous paintings of people depicting Bible characters.
She is survived by her siblings, Beverly Atkins Jones of Lexington, Pamela Massengill of Brandon, MS and David Sellers of Jackson.
She is also survived by her children Richard (Lorie) McCaskill of Jackson, Kim (David) Mann of Bradford, John (Michelle) McCaskill of Henderson, and Camille (Doug) Hunter of Titusville, FL; her stepdaughters, Linda Williams of Murfreesboro, Laura ( Bryan) Hall of Cane Ridge, Lisa (Chadd) Moore of Nashville; grandchildren: Brett McCaskill, Blake (Maria) McCaskill, Chelsea (Nathan) Foster, Eli (Jenna) Mann, Jesse McCaskill, Alex McCaskill, Andrew McCaskill, Grant Hunter, and Jamie Hunter; step grandchildren: Josh Hall, Jennifer (Alex) Mojaverian, Franklin Williams, Michael Williams and Anzel Moore; great grandchildren: Kaleb McCaskill, Parker McCaskill, Jakob McCaskill, Riley Foster, Rhett Foster, Hattie Mann and soon to be baby girl Foster; step great grandchildren: Anna Hall, Morgan Hall, Emri Hall and Maxine Mojaverian.
Special additional family members by love: Rhiannon Thomas Douglas, Taylor (Alex) Farris and family, Damon Farrell, and Nkosi (Katie) Mpofu and family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with officiants, Richard McCaskill and John McCaskill and David Sellers at graveside. Burial will follow at Estes Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM service time on Wednesday.
