Selmer

Shirley Faye Brooks, a cherished member of her community, was born on June 1, 1939, in McNairy County, Tennessee. She was the beloved daughter of the late Johnnie and Inetha Lott O’Neal.

On June 26, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage with Howard E. Brooks, embarking on a journey filled with love and memories. Sadly, Mr. Brooks preceded her in death on December 11, 1988, yet their bond remained an everlasting testament to their shared life.

Shirley devoted many of her years to her role as a proof operator at Selmer Bank & Trust, where she was not only known for her professional diligence but also for her warm and compassionate spirit. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Selmer, she found joy and purpose in her faith, which supported her throughout her life.

Beloved by all, Shirley was known for her exceptional cooking skills and her delightful candy making, talents that brought sweetness and cheer to gatherings with family and friends. The joys of life were enriched by her grandchildren, whom she adored, and cherished moments during their vacations at the beach.

Mrs. Brooks departed this life on September 3, 2025, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 2 days. She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughter, Susan King and husband Steve of Selmer; three grandchildren, Megan Shelton and husband Will, Morgan Jones and husband Patrick, and Molly Grace Bodiford and husband Mitchell, all of Selmer; and six great-grandchildren, Kolby, Karsyn, Kate, and Kora Shelton, Isla and Margot Jones. Additionally, she is survived by her aunt, Linnie Lott; her special friends, Jere Burton and Mellanie Surratt, and a host of extended family and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her cherished grandmother, Grace Lott, as well as her uncles, Robert and Joe Lott.

As we honor the life of Shirley Faye Brooks, we celebrate her legacy of love, faith, and kindness, which will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
