Shirley Jean Carver Holder passed away Saturday November 3, 2018 at Henderson Health & Rehab in Chester County, TN after a brief illness.
She was born on the Fourth of July, 1937 in Prospect Hill, NC to the late Ernest and Betty Carver. She grew up and attended schools in Prospect, NC and married Edward Jackson in 1954. She later married James Hall Holder in 1963 and moved to TN to the New Friendship Community. She worked at Chester County Manufacturing/Sportswear a number of years and later at Carl McAdams (Walter Willis) Meat Processing Business. Shirley enjoyed sewing, growing flowers, and watching hummingbirds at the many feeders she had hung up for them. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James in 1994 and brothers James, Ernest Jr. and Johnny Carver.
She is survived by sons Kenny (Elizabeth), David (Trish) and Randy Jackson of Fayetteville, NC and James “Jimmy” Earl Holder of Vancover, WA; a sister Mary (Harry) Griffin of Climax, NC; stepdaughter Gwen Conner of Henderson; sister-in-law Francis Britt of Henderson, Janey Carver and Sherby Mahaley of NC; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by longtime companion Marion Stout and beloved friends Mona Robertson and Martha & Debbie Mainord.
Funeral services will be at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue, 1:00 PM Monday, with Bro. Bobby Bray officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM time of the service. Burial will be at New Friendship Cemetery, Beech Bluff, TN.
Her family and friends want to thank all of the staff at Henderson Health & Rehab and West TN Hospice for the excellent care they gave Shirley and support shown to her family during the past few months.
