Shirley Ann Vales, 79, passed from this life Thursday, September 14, 2023, in Wewahitchka, Florida.
The daughter of the late Elbert Fort Vales (d. 12.28.2003) and Buna Elta Hall Vales (d. 6.1.2015), she was born December 21, 1943, in Caruthersville, Missouri where she lived until age 17 when her family moved to Hardeman County. She worked for Western Mental Health Institute in Bolivar as a psychiatric nurse for 32 years.
She went to high school at Bolivar Central where she enjoyed playing the clarinet in the band. Described by her family as a "tom-boy" while growing up, she loved playing baseball. A talented artist who loved to draw, she was most fond of time spent with her family and her cats. She lived most all of her life in the Silerton community but, often visited Florida where she enjoyed the warm winters. A Baptist in belief, she attended church at both Piney Grove and Silerton.
She leaves two daughters, Rhonda Cox of Silerton and Lisa (Glen) Crum of Corinth; two sons, Charles L. Hatch of Silerton and Bryan Poole of Panama City, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Matthew (Richelle) Plunk, Paige (Terry) Patterson, Ryan Williford, Kylan and Kayla Crum, Caleb, Sydney, C. J. and Brendan Poole, Joshua and Aston McDavitt; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Leo Plunk and Mackson Gobbell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Chad D. Poole (d. 12.23.2005); and two brothers, Danny Vales (d. 5.3.2019) and Garry Vales (d. 6.29.2022).
