Stephen Freed Sasser passed away at his home on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria McBride Sasser, on August 21, 2012 after 62 years of marriage.
A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, he was the son of the late Albert and Nellie Crawford Sasser. Mr. Sasser served his country as a member of the US Navy from 1940-1945 where he was a Gunner's Mate during World War II. He participated in several battles including the Battle of Okinawa. For many years, he and his family lived in Bolivar where he was an industrial engineer and office manager for Armira Corporation (Bolivar Tannery). In his leisure time, Mr. Sasser enjoyed spending time with his family, playing music, song writing, camping, traveling and vacations spent in Branson, MO. He and his wife moved to Middleton 10 years ago where they were members of the Middleton Church of Christ.
He is survived by his son and his wife, Keith and Wanda Sasser of Middleton; his grandchildren, Kevin Sasser of Middleton and Kimberly Tigner and her husband, Brian, also of Middleton; and his great-granddaugther, Taylor Tigner; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Lambert and Naomi Grantham; and a brother, Joel Sasser
