Susan Joyce Barrier was born June 22, 1956, to the late L.G. Gordon and Carolyn Pearson of Clifton, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Brenda Wilson of Savannah, Mike Gordon of St. Louis, and Jeff Gordon of Clifton. Susan was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2024 at the age of 67 years. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gary “Slim” Barrier to whom she was married to for 43 years. Her final years were filled with many health challenges, which she faced with him right by her side. She leaves behind her and Gary’s three children, Lori LaPack, wife of Chris LaPack of Stuttgart, Germany, Walter Pickett and his wife Misti Pickett of Savannah, and Kevin Barrier and his wife Stephanie Barrier, also of Savannah. She had eight grandchildren who she cherished more than anything. Christopher, Hannah and Eli LaPack, Lauren, Carson and Annsley Pickett, and Neely and Nadalee Barrier.
Susan enjoyed traveling with her husband Slim, often following her kids or relatives. She was an avid shopper, and thoroughly enjoyed buying gifts for her children and grandchildren and sometimes their friends too. She would plan for months to spoil her family on Christmas Eve, taking up her entire living room with wrapped presents, even though every year she claimed to be “cutting back”.
For 34 years Susan worked for Ms. Jackie Scott, whom she admired, at the Jack Gean Shelter. Helping others was her calling. She gave herself fully and touched countless lives over her career. She took great joy in every person she helped, remaining in touch with many for years after they left the shelter. She saw the best in everyone. “She loved me until I could love myself” was said by one of her friends.
She would be honored and humbled by this gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life today. She will be greatly missed. Go and enjoy your serenity, free from pain and sickness, you no longer have to imagine, you are there. Mom, Gan, Su-Su, Susan…we love you!
