Obituary

Tava Lawson, a deeply loved mother, grandmother, sister, and homemaker, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on May 15, 1934, to the late Eulia Plunk and Mary Green Plunk, Tava spent a lifetime cultivating a warm, welcoming home and nurturing those around her. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Lawson, who preceded her in death on April 7, 1992. While she spent some time working at the Brown Shoe Company, much of her life and heart was dedicated to her role as a homemaker.

Tava found profound joy in the simple, beautiful elements of life. She had a deep love for the outdoors, spending countless hours gardening and tending to her yard. Her green thumb was well-known in the community, where she frequently sold her fresh homegrown vegetables in town. Tava was also an exceptional cook who expressed her love through food. Her favorite times were large family gatherings, where loved ones would travel from all over—including Chicago, North Carolina, and Florida—to gather around her table, share stories, and enjoy her meals.

Tava was preceded in death by her parents, Eulia and Mary Plunk; her beloved husband, Lloyd Lawson; her son, Johnny Lawson; her daughter, Betty Owen; her grandson, Adam Matlock; her brothers, Roger Plunk, Junior Plunk, and Robert Plunk; her sister, Peggy New; her stepmother, Letha B. Gladish Plunk; and her stepsister, Treva McClain.

Her legacy of love, hospitality, and dedication to family continues through her survivors. She is leaves behind her son, Joey Lawson of Ramer, TN; her granddaughter, Jennifer Talley and husband Ken of Corinth, MS; her grandsons, Kevin Lawson of Glen, MS, and Phillip Matlock of Milledgeville, TN; her brother, Wayne Plunk of Waynesboro, TN; and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who will miss her dearly.
