Terry Bess Barnes Whitten was born February 21, 1926 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Carlos Cleo and Essie Mae Plunk Barnes.
She was united in marriage to Ernest (Pappy) Whitten on October 25, 1941, who preceded her in death on August 20, 1990.
Mrs. Whitten was a long time homemaker and seamstress. One of her most favorite sewing projects was piecing quilt tops. She was an employee of Aqua Glass Corporation for a number of years back in the eighties. She loved to read, work word puzzles, tend to her flower garden and cook for her family.She had a lifelong affiliation with Good Hope Baptist Church.
Mrs. Whitten departed this life in Savannah TN at Hardin Medical Center on November 16, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 26 days. She is survived by two sons, Wayne Whitten (Sandra) of Selmer, Ronnie Whitten of Paris TN, two granddaughters, Patricia Underwood (Michael)…. and Amanda Cristen Whitten….both of Selmer, three grandsons, Ernie Whitten, Joey Whitten (Heather), and Jeremy Whitten (Holly) all of Selmer, TN., nine great-grandchildren , one great, great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by a son, Ray Whitten, two sisters, Mae Nell Milford and Kathryn Scott and one brother A. L. (Lloyd) Barnes.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 12 pm until services at 3 pm at Good Hope Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, with Will Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery at Adamsville, Tennessee.
