Thomas J. Bivins

Mr. Thomas Joseph Bivins, 54, of Lancaster, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born March 24, 1957 in Scotts Hill, TN, he was a son of the late John Woodrow Bivins and the late Willie Dean Bivins. Mr. Bivins was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, and served his community as a licensed funeral director and embalmer with the staff of Mahaffey-Wilson Funeral Service & Cremations. He attended Jackson State Community College and Union University & Seminary in Jackson, TN. He received his mortuary degree from Mid-America College of Funeral Service, and a master’s degree from Northwestern University. In addition to being a licensed funeral director and embalmer in South Carolina and Tennessee, Thomas was an ordained Southern Baptist Minister and a certified Chaplain, and had served as the pastor for several churches in west Tennessee. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Thomas Bivins and Billy Bivins; and two sisters, Betty Jo Bivins Moffitt and Charlene Bivins.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dola Robinson Bivins of Lancaster; daughter, Myra Josephine Bivins, also of Lancaster; brothers, William Bivins of Lexington, TN, Leonard Dale Bivins and J. M. Bivins, both of Scotts Hill, TN; sisters, Wanda Scott of Lexington, TN, and Linda Moyers (Steve) of Grottes, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mahaffey-Wilson Funeral Service with The Reverend Steve Anglin, The Reverend Dr. Phillip Jett and The Reverend Gerald Eaves officiating. Interment will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m., and at other times at the family home.
