Thomas Roy Hutton

Loved and admired by all, Thomas "Roy" Hutton of his beloved hometown of Adamsville, Tennessee died peacefully on Monday. Roy, who never met a stranger or a golf course he didn't enjoy spending time with, was 76 at the time of his passing.
Born in Enville, Tennessee in 1943 to Thomas “Burl” and Aline Hutton, Roy and his family moved to Adamsville before he entered grade school. For the remainder of his life he never wanted to live anywhere else. While attending Adamsville High School, Roy met his soulmate and future wife of 57 years, Jackie Stanley. Together he and Jackie built a loving family, a warm and welcoming home, and a pictorial yard and garden. They also carved out time to travel across the U.S. together, to distant places they had always dreamed of exploring. Hand in hand, they journeyed through this world and to the world beyond, always supporting the other; Jackie and Roy died 19 days apart.
Having been raised in Adamsville, Roy contributed greatly to the rich fabric of the small town community. He was a lifetime member of the town's First United Methodist Church, where he served as Council Chairman, the Church Board’s highest position for many years. Roy was also a founding member of Adamsville Country Club, where to the disappointment of many he won numerous Club championships. He served as President of the Adamsville Jaycees and was also voted Citizen of the Year within his coffee drinking buddy circle.
While Roy was a successful salesman for most of his career, his customers remember him not only for his service, but as a great friend. Roy will long be remembered for his outgoing personality, his infectious laugh, his consummate courage in the face of several of life’s obstacles, and his undying devotion to his wife and family, his undeniable love for sports (especially Bama football), drinking coffee with his buddies at Jack’s and Pettigrew Drug Store, and his favorite putter. He left the people of Adamsville with a lifetime of loving memories. Heaven is rejoicing as Roy has met the Lord and reunited with Jackie, playing endless rounds of golf and watching Alabama football. Roll Tide!

Roy is survived by his children and their spouses, Blane and Tee Hutton of Adamsville TN; Michele and Jim Rodgers of Dallas TX, his wife’s sisters and spouses, Frankie and Joe Hill of Selmer TN; Kim and Rick Berry of Savannah TN; as well as four grandchildren: Taylor Hutton, Gracie Hutton, Megan Rodgers and Nicole Rodgers and one great grandchild Esther Hutton. He is also survived by his niece Melanie Hill and his nephew and spouse, Justin and Ashley Hill and their children, Reagan and Camden.

The family requests anyone attending to please follow all the recommended practices for social distancing and to please wear a mask. The service will be livestreamed and shared on the First United Methodist Church Facebook page. The family sincerely appreciates all the love, support, and prayers.

Visitation will begin on Friday, August 28, 2020 from 5 PM - 7 PM and continue on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 9 AM until Services at 11:00 AM all held at First United Methodist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, with Amanda Westmoreland, Steve Callicoatt and Mark Massey officiating. Burial will follow in the Adamsville Cemetery at Adamsville, Tennessee.
