Timothy W. Smith, 64, of Jonesborough, TN, formerly of Bolivar, passed from this life Wednesday morning, February 22, 2023, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Born in Jackson to Luther E. Smith and the late Barbara Emerson Smith, he was a 1976 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and served his country in the US Coast Guard from October, 1976 to October, 1980. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Todd; and a brother-in-law, Richard Hazelwood.
Tim worked with his father in construction for a few years before going to work at Armira Corporation in Bolivar. It was there, he received his color matching credentials which he used during his time working for Bruce Hardwoods in Jackson, TN, Harris-Takett Hardwoods in Johnson City and PPG. He moved to Jonesborough, TN in 1996. The last few years, he enjoyed helping those in his community with odd jobs they needed completed, such as, mowing their grass and painting. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Tim was a member of Morris Chapel Methodist Church and, in younger years, was a part of Bolivar First Baptist Church and Piney Grove Baptist Church near Silerton, TN.
An avid fan of both the St. Louis Cardinals and UT Vols, he had coached Little League baseball teams to a 3rd place statewide finish in 1991 in Goodlettsville, TN and, runner-up in Jackson, TN in 1992. He liked playing golf and working with his wife as they tended to their yard.
He leaves his wife of six years, Riga Smith of Jonesborough; son, Nathaniel Smith of Rutledge, TN; daughter, Julie Smith of Longview, TX; father, Luther E. Smith of Bolivar; two sisters, Cindy Hazelwood of Bolivar and Caroline (Donald) Vandiver of Jackson; brother, Gary Smith of Bolivar; and a granddaughter, Elise Smith of Rutledge.
