Timothy Wade Hurst was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1958, in Selmer, Tennessee, the beloved son of Effie Kay Tull Hurst and the late Quinton Hurst. A man rooted deeply in his family, his work, and his community, Tim lived a life defined by service, devotion, and quiet strength.
On February 6, 1988, Tim was united in marriage to the love of his life, Vickie Bolton Hurst. Their marriage of nearly four decades was built on commitment, shared values, and a steady love that anchored their family.
Tim dedicated 37 years of faithful service to ThyssenKrupp Elevators, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and pride in doing a job well. Beyond his career, Tim felt a deep calling to serve his community. From the very formation of the Rose Creek Fire Department, he answered that call and served with distinction and heart. His leadership and dedication eventually led him to roles as Assistant Chief and later Chief, positions he carried with humility and honor. For Tim, being a firefighter was not a title. It was a responsibility to protect and care for others.
Away from work and service, Tim found peace and purpose outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, and gardening, finding satisfaction in the rhythms of the land and the quiet lessons nature provides. One of his greatest joys was passing down life’s lessons, not through lectures, but through example, to his children and grandchildren. His wisdom, patience, and steady presence shaped generations.
Rarely far from his side was his loyal dog, Duke, Tim’s faithful companion who followed him wherever the day might lead.
Timothy Wade Hurst departed this life on December 28, 2025, in Bolivar, Tennessee, at the age of 67 years and 3 days. Though his passing leaves a deep absence, his influence, values, and love remain firmly planted in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Bolton Hurst, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; two daughters, Kelly Terry of Halls, Tennessee and Jana Hurst of Crown Point, Indiana; one son, Brian Hurst and wife Trisha of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Kaylee Hurst, Nathan Proto, and Wilson Terry; and his devoted mother, Effie Kay Tull Hurst.
In addition to his father, Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Teresa Story, and his nephew, Nicholas Story.
Tim Hurst will be remembered as a hardworking provider, a devoted family man, a trusted leader, and a man whose life quietly, but powerfully, made a difference.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Legacy Hospice and Bolivar Health and Rehabilitation for the compassionate care, kindness, and dignity shown to Tim and his family during this time.
