He was born April 14, 1947, son of the late John L. and Clara (Simmons) Weeks of Henderson. Mr. Weeks grew up in Henderson and attended Chester County Schools. While in high school, he was an integral member of the football, baseball, and basketball teams. He was a talented athlete who had a passion for sports. He was voted Most Athletic and received the Most Valuable Lineman award. He was both Chemistry Club and Honor Club president his senior year. He graduated with his class of 1965 and enjoyed many class reunions throughout the years. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Massengill, and they had three children, Vikki, John, and Mary Kathryn. Following high school, he attended Memphis State University and later joined the United States Army. He contributed over 30 years of combined service in the United States Army and The Tennessee Army National Guard. He retired as Sergeant First Class. He was awarded The Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge. He also worked for the United States Postal Service at the Henderson Post Office for 35 years.
Mr. Weeks dedicated many years to his community and formed lifelong friendships with fellow members in multiple organizations. He was a 50-year member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #485, Shriners International, and the Order of Malta. He was also a member of the Chester County Lions Club and a beloved member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Henderson Elks Lodge #2459. Throughout his long-time membership with the Elks, he held various offices including multiple years as Exalted Ruler. Some of his greatest contributions included fundraising for children's charities with the Carl Perkins Center and many other local causes. Tom was an avid golfer and helped organize and participate in many charity golf tournaments at Chickasaw Golf Course and Woodland Hills Country Club. He enjoyed watching all types of sporting events, especially The University of Tennessee Volunteers Football. He also loved to dance. From dancing with family and friends to performing a solo to Rocky Top, he never passed up a moment to get on the dance floor.
Tom continued his fondness for sports and his community by serving on the Chester County High School Chain Gang for over 25 years, outlasting five principals and eight head coaches.
