Tommy Holmes

Mr. Tommy Holmes, age 92 of Whiteville, Tennessee, passed from this life Monday night, July 23, 2018 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Mr. Holmes was born in the Whiteville-Newcastle community in Hardeman County on Wednesday, December 2, 1925 to the late Leon S. and Annie Lee Bishop Holmes. He served in the United States Army Air Force from July of 1945 to November of 1946, and on Saturday, July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to the former Gloria Marie Stuart, who survives.

The couple moved to Memphis in 1952 until they moved back to Whiteville in 1986. Tommy worked for Buckeye Technologies, Inc., a division of Procter & Gamble, as a food science lab technician for 35 years before he retired in 1988. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Whiteville.

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Gloria Holmes, he is survived by a daughter, Cindy Nichols and husband Jim of Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a sister, Sarah Holmes.
