Troy Eugene Mathis

Troy Eugene Mathis Sr. was born December 28, 1924 in Pocahontas, Tennessee the son of the late Wiley Franklin and Margaret Elizabeth Wilbanks Mathis.



He was united in marriage to Mary Catherine Hancock on September 3, 1971.



Mr. Mathis was so proud to have served his country. He was in the United States Army during World War II and reenlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean conflict and Vietnam war. He retired after 24 years of service from the United States Air Force as a master sergeant. He was in 8 major battles, 5 in Europe and 3 in Vietnam. He was a member of Air Force Sergeants Association, VFW post #15044, American Legion post #198, National Republican Congressional Committee, the Enlisted Association, 32nd Degree Mason, Masonic Lodge in Tokyo Japan-Kyushu Lodge #4, Masonic Lodge #264 in Middleton, TN for over 50 years, Scottish Rites, Eastern Star #115 and a member of New Hope Baptist church in Pocahontas, TN.



Mr. Mathis departed this life on August 25, 2009 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 84 Years, 7 Months, 28 Days. He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine Mathis of Pocahontas, TN; a daughter, Cynthia Ann (Jordon) Flake and husband Larry Joe of Pocahontas, TN; four sons, James Ellis Mathis and wife Christine of Memphis, TN, Ronnie Eugene Mathis and wife Karen of Arlington, TN, Victor Leroy Jordon and wife April of Pensacola, FL, Troy Eugene Mathis and wife Angela of Pocahontas, TN; five sisters, Jean Whizin of San Antonio, TX, Estelle Banning of Memphis, TN, Louise Frazer and husband Archie of Los Altos, CA, Lee Pace of Memphis, TN, Faye Saucier and husband Reggie of Barling, AR; 17 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren.



In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Lester Jordon and his wife, Ann Jordon; two brothers, Horace Mathis and Dalton Mathis.
