Van served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid tennis player and loved UT sports.
He is survived by his wife, Gail of almost 60 years, a son, Matt (Melissa) a daughter, Chelsea Kopp, (Jeremy). He is also survived by his grandchildren who he loved dearly, Chase Dyer, Mia Dyer, Allie Grace Kopp, Alivia Kopp and Clayton Kopp.
He was in banking as a career and made many friends during this time. He was Baptist in faith. He and his wife taught kindergarten class together.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elma Crouse Dyer and his father, Brodie Leamon Dyer. He also lost his grandparents paternal and maternal.
He fought a long battle with cancer never complaining. He had a smile for everyone who he met and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He will be cherished and missed by his family. He loved his faithful fur babies, LaLa and Sadie.
