Vance E. Smith, Sr., age 73 of Bolivar, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Vance Edward Smith was born on Saturday, September 25, 1943, to Vance Elmo Smith and Lucille Rebecca Pulliam in Memphis, TN. On November 15, 1963, he married Dianna Lynn Plunk. After working ten years for Dover, Vance owned and operated the Shirt Shack in Bolivar for forty plus years. He attended the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Vance was a former Jaycee, and enjoyed talking with people. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1961, and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Memphis State in 1974. He served in the National Guard for six years, grew up in Hickory Valley and lived in Bolivar for the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna Lynn Smith of Bolivar; a son, Vance E. Smith II of Bolivar; a sister, Frances Williams of Nashville; a brother, George Holland; and one grandchild, Shelby Lynn Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vance Elmo Smith and Lucille Rebecca Pulliam Smith; and a brother, Robert Goforth.
