VELMA GREENE MOTEN (MORTON)
Henderson, TN: Velma Dee Greene Moten (Morton) age 99 passed away Tuesday evening April 25, 2017 at the Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born July 19, 1917 in Chester County in the Wilson School Community, the daughter of the late James Henry and Lydia Ellen Thurbush Greene. She went to school at Wilson School House. She married Vernon Morton. They lived in the Wilson School Community where they farmed, raising cotton, cattle, hogs, and dairy. She worked at Salant & Salant Mfg. and then began working at the Chester County Nursing Home when it opened in 1968 and worked twenty nine years. She loved to quilt and crossword puzzles books, sewing and playing the piano by ear. Mr. Morton passed away October 23, 1963. She was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Moten is survived by a daughter, Hazel Moten Pettit of Henderson; a son, Richard Alan Morton and wife Dottee of Carrollton, GA; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great grandson, Aidan Williams, July 26, 2016 and two brothers, Thomas Greene and Warnie Greene and three sisters, Pearl Parker, Jennie Mae Couch and Viola Parker.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Ronnie Geary Officiating. Burial will follow in Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friend at Casey Chapel 6 PM until 9 PM Thursday.
