Mrs. Baker, the widow of Mr. Jimmie Revern Baker, died Saturday at the home of her son, Bill Baker, in Dyersburg.
Mrs. Baker was born May 7, 1923 in Middleton, TN to Will Dewey and Hattie Athalia McBride Stewart and lived all her life in Hardeman County. On May 17, 1942, she married Jimmie Revern Baker, who died August 17, 1987. Mrs. Baker was a homemaker who also worked as an assistant postmaster, substitute teacher and an election official. She was a member of the Hornsby United Methodist Church where she was treasurer, taught Sunday school, lead music, and worked with the youth. A caregiver to the community and her family, she was a member of the Ruritan Club of Hornsby and the Hornsby PTA. She loved to garden, can, and freeze produce, quilt and sew.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Owens and her husband Billy of Bolivar; a son William Baker of Dyersburg; six sisters, Dorothy Williams of Bolivar, Mackye Hosse of Arlington, Faye Gullett of Memphis, Jeanette Harrell of Walnut, MS, Mary Elizabeth Vincent of Saulsbury and Brenda James of Baldwyn, MS; a brother, J. D. Stewart of Middleton; five grandchildren, Delores Sleadd, Darlene Atchley and husband Neal, Brian Owens and wife Melanie, Amy Friedman and husband Alec, and Andy Baker; and by eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Glenda Young, Christine Stewart and Vivian Geer, a brother Delbert Stewart, and a daughter-in-law Emily Baker.
