Virgie Irene Ervin Barham
Virgie Irene Ervin Barham was born Monday, January 14, 1924 in Chester County, the daughter of the late George Vester and Euna Mae Tucker Ervin. She went to school at Finger and Bethel Springs High School and graduated in 1941. She married R.B. Barham in 1941. They farmed near Finger and moved to the Wilson School Community in 1964 where they continued to farm. She attended Montezuma Methodist Church. She passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Dyersburg Manor and Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker in the Wilson School Community in Henderson, TN. In recent years she had lived in Dyersburg.
Survivors are one daughter, Mary Jane Barham Tarpley (Buck) of Dyersburg and two brothers, Ray Willard Ervin of Selmer and Paul Allen Ervin (Mary) of Ramer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Benjamin Barham (1993); three brothers, Harlie William Ervin (1997), George Edward Ervin (2008), and Roy Neal Ervin (2011); one sister, Lerlie Mae Ervin Morris (2014); and two grandchildren, Allyson Meredith Tarpley (1977) and Jason Douglas Tarpley (1992).
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, August 20 at Shackelford Funeral Directors—Casey Chapel. The funeral will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 am on Friday, August 21. Burial will be in Chester County Memorial Gardens. The service will be officiated by Rev. Howard Russom and Rev. Jim Osborne.
Pallbearers will be David Ervin, Greg Ervin, Ricky Hearn, James Grantham, Troy Burkhead, and Ricky Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Tarpley and Larry Barker.
The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
