Virgie Wilson Hanback West

Virgie Wilson Hanback West, 91 of Florence was born June 19, 1923 in Collinwood, TN the daughter of the late Franklin and Matilda Rhodes Wilson. Mrs. West died Thursday June 19, 2014 in Florence. In addition to her parents, Mrs West was preceded in death by her husbands Lamon Hanback and James West, grandsons, Joshua Hanback and Greg Tidwell, and a sister, Atha Lawson. Formerly she had worked at Collinwood Manufacturing and worked in housekeeping at several area nursing homes. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Tommy Hanback and wife Emma of Edwardsburg, Michigan and Jimmy Hanback and wife Wanda of Cypress Inn, TN, four daughters, Stella Thigpen and husband Alvin, Brenda Hunt and husband Junior, Glenda Flippo and Sherry Winters all of Florence, AL, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, stepsons, Ray West and wife Wanda and Gary West, stepdaughter, Linda Daniels, a brother, Elvis Wilson of Florence, AL, two sisters, Mary Frances Cole of Florence, AL, Alta Mae Dickey of Town Creek, AL, nieces and nephews.

Services are scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Mt. Tabor Methodist Church in Florence with Alvin Thigpen, Larry Anerton, and Jeff Tingle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00-9:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Home in Collinwood. She will be placed in the church on Monday one hour prior to service.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Mark Hanback, Roger Hunt, Brad Hanback, Joseph Flippo, David Winters, and Joseph Littleton, great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Gentiva Hospice and Scofield Medical for the loving care they provided.
