Virginia Bankston Cox

Mrs. Virginia Bankston Cox, age 93 of Toone, passed from this life Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2009 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.



She was born October 5, 1915 in Chewalla, Tennessee to the late Dr. E. L. Baker and Lora Mae 'Queenie' Hurley Baker Dacus. She attended Blue Mountain College and Memphis State University and owned Top Hat Restaurant with her first husband, James Edward Bankston, Sr., who preceded her in death August 2, 1972. She married Jack Cox, who survives, July 29, 1995 and was a member of the Bolivar First Baptist Church where she sang in the Golden Sounds Choir. She was a member of the Bolivar Duplicate Bridge Club and enjoyed volunteer work and travel.



She will be greatly missed by her husband and family and will remain in their hearts and memories. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Ms. Emogene Bowden for the loving care she gave Mrs. Cox during her declining health.



In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Linda Cardinale of Ft. Myers, FL, and Gina Wheeler and her husband Bernie of Old Hickory, TN; a daughter-in-law, Julie Bankston of Franklin, TN; a sister, Louise Housholder and her husband Charles of Memphis; five grandchildren, James E. "Bo" Bankston and wife Kristen of Franklin, John Bankston and wife Amy of Louisville, KY, David Wheeler, Jr. of Hartford, CT; Meredith Wilson and husband Doug of Clarksville; and David Maxwell and wife Jami of Ft. Myers, FL; and nine great grandchildren, Ava, Charlotte, Julia, Josie, Jack, and Will Bankston, Owen and Parker Maxwell, and Alex Wilson.



In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James E. Bankston, Jr.; two sisters, Carolyn Zeller and Ouida McCalla Nash; and her second husband, Tommy Thompson.
