Virginia Maxine Peterson Bumphus, age 78, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2014 at her home in Clifton, Tennessee, surrounded by her loved-ones.
She was born October 14, 1935 in Savannah, TN, the daughter of the late Lois Sparks and Clyde Peterson. On May 11, 1952, she was united in marriage to William Hal Bumphus, who preceded her in death. They shared a forty-year relationship, which produced 12 children. Virginia was a retired healthcare worker and was employed at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Waynesboro, TN for nearly 30 years. She was also a faithful member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Missionary Church in Clifton, Tennessee. For her children, she a great example of living life on one's own terms, always with grace and dignity. She was a mother first and put her children above all else. She believed strongly in her faith, in forgiveness, and in family; her presence left this world a better place, and her legacy will forever be reflected in minds and hearts of those who she loved most.
She loved taking care of her children and grandchildren, cooking and tending to her flowers. Now, she has reunited with her loved-ones, who have gone before her. Sometime on the Tuesday evening, she was received into her permanent home with God. Then, a familiar voice said "Jack, where have you been," and she smiled with delight.
Besides her parents and husband, two sons preceded her in death: William Hal Bumphus, Jr. and Duren Bumphus.
