Mr. Williams passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis.
A native of Fayette County, he lived all of his life in Hardeman County where he worked for Troy Ferge and also was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of Whiteville First Baptist Church.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed being outdoors, riding ATVs, target shooting and knapping and hunting arrowheads. He is described by his family as a very caring and loving person with a fondness for kids who was always smiling. He especially enjoyed helping others, particularly family members.
He is survived by his parents, Edgar and Sandra Fay Shields of Whiteville; two sisters, Connie (Billy) Davis of Hornsby and Carol (Jason) Maynard of Beech Bluff, TN; three brothers, Joshua (Heather) Shields of Whiteville, Joe Allen (Becky) Bryant of Saulsbury and James Shields of Hornsby; his son, Brenden Andrew Cates of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews including, Kelsey Knoff, Haley Bryant, Brody Bryant, Elijah Bryant and Nathaniel Shields.
He is preceded in death by a step-brother, Lynn Shields; maternal grandparents, Carolyn and Joe Manard Henson; paternal grandparents, Vadine and Edgar Lewis Shields; and a cousin, Brian Henson.
